World Electronic Expo Shows Off The Future Of Entertainment

Today in Bremen Germany the World Electronic Expo (Otherwise know as WEE), had it’s floor show open to the public. The point of WEE is to show of potential new electronic technology to companies, investors & consumers. The shows for the companies & investors have already happened, but the floor show for the consumers was today & the world got to once again see the wonderments of the future.

Amongst the highlights of the show was a presentation on how to make phones more viable, by reducing the size & adding a screen that can flip (Presented by the Halfii Entertainment Corporation). This was a good opener for the company, right before they presented a new device that is going to “revolutionize” how the world does entertainment. This device, know as a ‘Electronic Board-Game Device’ (Or EBD), was shown off to the public. The EBD, a tall standing object with a screen, roughly 7 feet tall in height & 9 feet in width, allows the owner to plug in ‘Electronic Board Games’ into the back compartment & then for those to appear on the screen to pick & then play. They showed off this during the presentation & then played many different games during the show, most notable being Chess, Go, & Mandala. However the show wasn’t a total success, as many viewers noted that it was hard to see the screen from the distance with it’s red & black lighting (& the company noted that the machine could cause headaches if used for too long).

An outlook pull taken after the show, showed that a good amount of attending people foresee this machines as an expensive & inferior novelty of true board gaming. Most reasoned that on can just go out & buy all of the board games that were shown for much less of the cost of the machine. However some of the words that the presenter gave (Gariel Gabby), made us think twice on what this device could be used for. To quote Gabby “This device can bring any board game to the home, if the user has the available chip for it, in-fact, in the future we maybe able to play things on here that can’t be played on any sort of board game.” We here at HNA (Or at least I) are intrigued by this idea of the possibility of this game beyond board games, & are excited to see where the Halfii Entertainment Corporation takes this idea. -Mikhal Moroz May 11th 1972
